Jury trial for arrested ADAPT members

Atlantis ADAPT - 07/24/17, Denver, Colorado - Today is the start of the first jury trial for the first of seven Atlantis ADAPT members arrested on January 27th, 2017. When Atlantis ADAPT tried to visit Senator Gardner´s 5th floor office at the Chase Bank building to discuss the importance of Medicaid home and community based services, the elevators were shut off by building security by request of Andrew Dunkley in Senator Gardner's office and arrests were made in the lobby. In total 16 ADAPTer´s were lead out of the building and cited for trespassing.
We are choosing jury trials to affirm that our first amendment rights were violated by staff intentionally restricting access to Senator Gardner, an elected official serving the constituents of Colorado. We plan on using everything in our power to prove that the orders to lock down the elevators in the building were unconstitutional. The fact the order came directly from the office of a US Senator makes the action even more appalling. No group should have their viewpoints shut out.

Senator Gardner´s office denied us of our first amendment right to gather and speak our minds, and is using the building and security team as a shield to guard themselves. It is time for Senator Gardner to be held accountable for his actions and to come forward and face his constituents in order to have productive dialogue, regardless of view point. It´s his duty to protect and serve his fellow Coloradans. Our message was then and still is now: NO cuts to Medicaid, save our LIBERTY!
